Abstract
This article is a study about the construction of the identity of secondary school teachers, focused in professors and teachers at Colégio Pedro II. The time frame of the research is the period of Brazilian Redemocratization, which is between the end of the Estado Novo and the 1964 Coup. During this time, the school expands, ends a cycle and loses its model character. It aims to understand how the teaching staff at the school was shaped. We used the analytical category “institutional program” from Dubet (2002) and approach teaching identity based on Dubar (1997), on how the subject constructs his or her “professional identity”. The sources analyzed were in the Documentation and Memory Center of Colégio Pedro II. It was possible to identify the ways in which these teachers were selected, aspects of the constitution of their careers, responsibilities, duties, and penalties to which they were subject in case of non-compliance with the rules.
