Abstract

In contemporary society we have observed different family configurations. This study aims to understand the educational practices of grandparents from the following problem question: What are the main strategies and mobilizations of caregiver grandparents that influenced the school longevity of young grandchildren? Research methodology is of a qualitative nature. It was mainly based on the application of questionnaires to students at a public university in Minas Gerais. It was carried out with semi-structured interviews with university students and their respective grandmothers. In this article, we will present the case of a Psychology student and her grandmother. The results revealed that the grandmother considers her granddaughter's efforts throughout basic education, highlighting her commitment to school tasks. The creation of a support network, the encouragement of reading, as well as the choice of school establishments attended by the granddaughter contributed to the student's academic longevity.
