Abstract
Brazil and France share common challenges related to education. The objective of this article is to compare the teaching of socially acute/controversial issues in both countries. We propose a theoretical analysis of its disciplinary dimension, the controversies involving school curricula and the debates on secularism. We analyze the social changes that have occurred in the last thirty years in relation to access to school that may explain the development of sensitivity to these issues in society.
