Abstract
This study, developed by the Espaço Memorial Carlos Chagas Filho (Emccf/UFRJ), analyzes the implementation of conservation and restoration workshops as tools for strategy education and scientific dissemination in public schools. It focus on a case study of a partner school of the museum, located in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. The research aims to bring students closer to cultural heritage and to stimulate interest in science through practical workshops on bookbinding and painting conservation. This is based on pedagogical approaches of Paulo Freire and John Dewey. The results show an increase in student engagement, the development of psychomotor skills, and the strengthening of interactions between students and teachers. Therefore, the inclusion of interdisciplinary practices contributes significantly to the appreciation of cultural heritage and, above all, to students’ personal development and the creation of a democratic learning environment in national education.
