Abstract
This article discusses the federative organization adopted in Brazil and the possibilities it poses to contribute to the reduction of educational inequalities in the country. Taking as a reference the conceptions, the trajectories, and the results of two current educational policies which bring into play federative relations, the aim is to understand under which conditions, with which instruments and within which limits these policies promote the reduction of educational inequalities in the Brazilian public education.
