Abstract
This paper aims to understand the relationship between (re)production of educational inequalities, teacher training, teaching profession and school effectiveness in Brazil. The article reports the gaps, but also the advances in teacher training levels and the attractiveness of the teaching profession. Despite these advances, there are problems related to the quality of training and the absence of policies for the professional integration of new teachers.
