Abstract
This article discusses the arrival of the Integrated Public Education Centers (Ciep) in Nova Iguaçu-RJ, aiming to problematize aspects of this policy in local society. The time limit is the beginning of the implementation of the policy (1980s). Methodologically, we used documentary analysis of sources such as the minutes of the City Council. In the background, we analyzed regional newspaper reports and interviews with professionals from Ciep and residents of the municipality. We also worked with a theoretical framework based on the concept of field (Bourdieu) and local history (Cavalcanti). This made it possible to perceive the recurrence of two themes – the construction of the Ciep and its financing –, resulting in evidence of an implementation process organized by the “in possession” of the political field – planners and councilors –, but under the influence of the “profane” – the policy’s target audience.
