Abstract
This study aims to understand the process of creating and organizing the bachelor’s degree program in rural education at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, and how the initial training of future teachers to work in rural schools is structured. We draw upon scholars’ work in rural education with theoretical support from Historical-Cultural Theory (HTC), grounded and foundations in dialectical historical materialism. We conducted documentary analysis as methodological procedures, using as sources the pedagogical projects for 2014-2018 and 2018-2022 academic years, aiming to analyze the theoretical and methodological organization of the curriculum framework for this degree program. The results indicate that rural education is a historical demand of social movements and that the training of teachers to work in rural contexts represents a strategic action that strengthens the right to education of populations living and working in rural areas.
