Abstract
We can’t escape from media. Children and youth who were born in the middle of this new digital culture discover a world where being connected to technology is a way of life. Every advance made by technology for the youth represents a new set of fears and challenges for educators. As we think about the relationship between education and communication, it´s important to develop in children and teenagers cognitive skills to guarantee a safely use of the Internet. According to Lévy (1993), the new media will tease cognitive skills for its own paradigmatic nature. The objective of this paper is to discuss some ideas about online potential risks and opportunities shared by children and adolescents, in dialogue with researches that seek exploring the children and youth relationship with the new technologies, especially those who use the Internet.
